Estas estrellas poseen una temperatura efectiva comprendida entre 2400 y 3700 K y una masa entre 0.08 y 0.45 masas solares. En este sentido, un equipo de investigadores dirigido por Borja Toledo Padr\u00f3n, estudiante de doctorado Severo Ochoa-La Caixa del Instituto de Astrof\u00edsica de Canarias (IAC), especializado en la b\u00fasqueda de planetas alrededor de este tipo de estrellas, ha descubierto una supertierra alrededor de GJ 740, una estrella enana fr\u00eda situada a unos 36 a\u00f1os luz de la Tierra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El planeta orbita su estrella con un periodo orbital de 2,4 d\u00edas y posee una masa aproximada de tres masas terrestres. Debido a la cercan\u00eda de la estrella al Sol y del planeta a su estrella, esta nueva supertierra podr\u00e1 ser objeto de estudio en futuras investigaciones con los telescopios de gran di\u00e1metro al final de esta d\u00e9cada. Los resultados del estudio se han publicado recientemente en la revista Astronomy &amp; Astrophysics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe src=\"about:blank\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNos encontramos frente al planeta con el segundo periodo orbital m\u00e1s corto alrededor de este tipo de estrella. La masa y el periodo orbital de este planeta sugieren una composici\u00f3n rocosa, as\u00ed como un radio estimado de 1.4 radios terrestres, que podr\u00e1 ser confirmado con futuras observaciones del sat\u00e9lite TESS\u201d, explic\u00f3 Borja Toledo Padr\u00f3n, autor principal del descubrimiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La misi\u00f3n Kepler, reconocida por ser una de las m\u00e1s exitosas en la detecci\u00f3n de exoplanetas a trav\u00e9s del m\u00e9todo de tr\u00e1nsitos, ha descubierto un total de 156 nuevos planetas alrededor de estrellas fr\u00edas. A partir de estos datos, se ha estimado que este tipo de estrellas albergan en promedio 2.5 planetas con un per\u00edodo orbital inferior a 200 d\u00edas. \u201cLa b\u00fasqueda de nuevos exoplanetas alrededor de estrellas fr\u00edas est\u00e1 impulsada por la menor diferencia que existe entre la masa planetaria y la masa estelar en comparaci\u00f3n con estrellas de otras clases espectrales, as\u00ed como la gran abundancia de este tipo de estrellas en nuestra galaxia\u201d, coment\u00f3 Toledo Padr\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El estudio forma parte del proyecto HADES (HArps-n red Dwarf Exoplanet Survey), en el que colaboran el IAC, el Institut de Ci\u00e8ncies de l\u2019Espai (IEEC-CSIC) de Catalu\u00f1a, y el programa italiano GAPS (Global Architecture of Planetary Systems), y cuyo objetivo es la detecci\u00f3n y caracterizaci\u00f3n de exoplanetas alrededor de estrellas fr\u00edas, utilizando para ello el espectr\u00f3grafo HARPS-N, situado en el Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG) emplazado en l Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos, en el municipio palmero de Garaf\u00eda. Esta detecci\u00f3n ha sido posible gracias a una campa\u00f1a de observaci\u00f3n con HARPS-N, prolongada durante seis a\u00f1os, complementada con medidas de los espectr\u00f3grafos CARMENES (situado en el Observatorio de Calar Alto, en Almer\u00eda) y HARPS (situado en el Observatorio La Silla de Chile), de la misma manera, el soporte fotom\u00e9trico proporcionado por los surveys ASAS y EXORAP.
